1) In January, my friends and I heard that Jimmy Buffett was coming to
Tampa. Advertised ticket prices were $30, $45 and $90 for the Ford
Ampitheatre which has a lawn section (we assumed that the $30 were for
the lawn, the $45 were for the back section of the theater and that the
$90 were for the front section). We made the mistake of telling two
friends who are HUGE Buffett fans instead of making this a surprise for
them. Once we told them, were were committed to the purchase regardless
of price. Tickets were supposed to be available between TicketMaster
(who I hate) and LiveNation (who isn't much better). Before the tickets
even went on sale - LiveNation ceded their ticket allotment to
TicketMaster so there was only ONE vendor to sell the tickets. Lovely.
When the tickets went on sale, I was one of the first callers
(according to the TicketMaster representative I got). Even so, there
were NO $30 or $45 tickets - not in any location at the venue. The
prices were $90 for the back section and $160 for the front section.
Period. What I had seen advertised were the "non-TicketMaster" prices -
according to the representative. Since we were committed to buying
tickets, I had no choice but to buy them at $90 each PLUS another $20
per ticket in charges, fees and robber baron taxes. So, our idea of
surprising our friends with tickets to Buffett for $45 each (plus tax)
turned in $110 per ticket. How is this even legal? They advertise one
price but charge another? Isn't that illegal? False advertising?
Bait-n-Switch?
2) I wanted to purchase 2 tickets to the Budweiser American Invitational (Grand Prix Horse Jumping) on 4/4/09 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Ticket prices are advertised as being $25, $35 and $40. The section of the stadium I wanted tickets were in were in the $25 price range. When I called TicketMaster (the ONLY vendor selling tickets)they wanted to charge me the $50 for the two tickets PLUS fees and charges which brought the total to $99.50. For 2 $25 tickets!! This is price gouging and illegal. How can you let them get away with this?!?!? I refused to pay and hung up. How the Gov't can possibly allow TicketMaster to become a monopoly is beyond me.
